Dr Sophie Lea is an experienced counsellor, academic, teacher and clinical supervisor. She is passionate about youth mental health and supporting emerging counsellors' and psychologists' professional skills and confidence. Sophie has 25 years of experience working as a counsellor and clinical supervisor for therapists and organisations to support the facilitation of best-practice mental health outcomes for clients.
Dr Lea is a co-founder and director of the not-for-profit, Kind Schools and an advisory board member for Resilient Youth Australia.

WebinarTopic - Healing Spaces: The impact of thetherapy room on psychotherapeutic outcomes; facilitating trauma-informed roomdesign.
Objectives: Healthcare design research has been lacking in the therapy fields,with hospital healthcare design taking precedence, this research aimed toaddress this gap and provided therapists with evidence-based guidance andawareness of the importance of the therapy environment from users’perspectives.
This presentation will explore the importanceof a well-designed therapy room environment,
drawing upon a qualitative research studyfacilitated by the presenter and on-going consultancy
work in the field. Semi-structured interviewsand an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA)
were implemented, which examined the livedexperiences of the therapy room of twenty adult
clients and therapists and current researchand consultancy in trauma-informed design practices.
Learning objectives andoutcomes.
● The presentation will provide a rationale and evidence base for whythe therapy room design and function implementation warrants consideration,reporting key research findings.
● Develop a greater-awareness oftrauma-informed design principles.
● Specific guidelines andachievable recommendations for effective healthcare design practice will bediscussed, exploring both face-to-face and more recently utilised telehealththerapy settings.
● Attending delegates will beencouraged to reflect on and evaluate their work environment suitability and beprovided with practical guidance to implement more conducive trauma-informedenvironments for therapy facilitation.
● Delegates will be equipped withresearch knowledge to be able to address and advocate for suitable workingconditions for themselves and their clients.
