Topic Outline
Synopsis: This symposium contains two aspects of sex education in the form of global and clinical perspectives. The global perspectives will be covered by Dr. Manoj K Pandey, who will be speaking on the current status of sexuality education in a global scenario and will present a comparative viewpoint. He will also talk about how many countries are following the guidelines published by UNESCO(2018) and discuss the success stories, scope and pathways of improving sexuality education in the global context.
The second speaker Dr. TSS Rao will speak about the clinical implications of imparting and not imparting sexuality education. He will speak about how the self-image of sex remains an integral part of the growth and development of a person. He will shed light upon misconceptions, and poor self-image about sex and their impact in the onset and maintenance of psychiatric conditions.
Objectives and outcomes/learnings
A few of the learning objectives and outcomes of the first talk are to know the progress and stagnation in policy making and implementing sexuality education and to get an awareness of the guidelines for sexuality education. Outcomes of the talk are expected to enhance awareness and understanding about this rarely discussed matter. The audience will learn the challenges and pathways to policy-making and implementing sex education.
The basic learning objectives and outcomes of the second talk will be to enhance the understanding of the audience about the importance of sex and sexuality education in the proper and healthy development of a person. The expected outcomes of the talk can be considered as, first, the audience will be acquainted with the importance of factual information, role of parents and society in imparting knowledge about sex and the methods of prevention of psychiatric morbidity through the lens of sex and sexuality education.
