Objectives/LearningOutcomes: The MS Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation hasachieved significant outcomes in the field of mental health through its variousinitiatives. One of the main achievements has been creating awareness among thegeneral public and important
stakeholders in the community. By sensitizing schools, women’s groups, self-help groups, and religious leaders, the trust has beenable to break down the stigma associated with mental illness and encourage morepeople to seek treatment.
To address the issue of cost-effective treatment, thetrust has established Ahana Hospital, a 300-bed neuropsychiatric hospital. Thishospital provides quality care at an affordable cost, making it accessible to awider section of society.
Another major achievement of the trust has been inaddressing the lack of mental health human resources in the community. Thetrust’s interventions have also had a positive impact on patient outcomes. Dueto improved drug compliance, the symptoms of mental illness have reduced, leading to an improved quality of life for patients. This, in turn, has reducedthe burden on
familiesand made them more assertive and productive members of the community.
