Professor Dr Anwarul Hasan Sufi

Professor Dr Anwarul Hasan Sufi, Director of the Mental Health Center of Rajshahi University and former Chairman of Rajshahi University Psychology Department started his teaching career as a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology of Rajshahi University in 1981 and became Full Professor in 1999.
He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Rajshahi University in 1992 on ‘Psycho-bio-social factors of mental retardation in Bangladesh’ and did Post Doctoral in Manchester University in 1994 on ‘aging of the mentally handicapped persons’.
As one of the pioneer researchers in the field of developmental disabilities, he studied the problems and prospects of handicapped persons in many countries of Asia, Europe and America since 1982. He served as the Director of Bangladesh National Institute for the Mentally Retarded during 1988- 1990. He is the founder of the SIVUS Institute Bangladesh which is providing volunteer professional service toa large portion of mentally handicapped persons in Bangladesh. He has many publications on different issues of Psychology and is the member editorial boards of several leading scientific journals. He also structured the national curriculum for the mentally handicapped children and recently completed research on Gerontology funded by University Grants Commission. He is the co-author of several books named ‘SIVUS Group Dynamic Principles and the Mentally Retarded Persons of Hatgangopara’; ‘Virgin Village Bandaikhara- its women and mental handicaps’. He is the co-author of the two volume books onGeneral Psychology read in the colleges in Bangladesh approved by the National Curriculum and Text Book Board.
In 1995 he obtained The Royal Charter of The British Psychological Society. He is associated with many international and national organizations. Former Secretary General of Bangladesh Psychological Association, he is in the Executive committees of Bangladesh Association for the Advancement of Science, South Asian Associationof Psychology, Bengal Academy of Psychological Sciences. He is in the Editorial Board of the journal of the Indian Academy of Applied Psychology, Journals of different public universities of Bangladesh. He is the Chief Editor of the Bangladesh Association of Behavioural Sciences.
Professor Sufi has supervised 15 PhD and 4 M.Phil. research works in Bangladesh. Besides 23PhD works of different Bangladeshi Universities, he served as external examiner of 17 PhD works of different universities of India.
