Call for Papers - Theme
The Indian Academy of Professional Supervisors (IAPS) invites abstracts for the
Virtual Asia-pacific Mental Health Symposium 2023 (VAMHS 2023) from professionals, practitioners and researchers in psychology, social work, education, psychiatry, health and mental health across cultures and nationalities.
Abstracts for oral presentations and symposia should be on the following themes and subthemes:
I. Mental Health and Wellbeing in Diverse Settings:
Subthemes. : Educational/Workplace Settings, Sports Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Prison, Private Practice, Social and Cross-Cultural Psychology
II. Mental Health Concerns and Wellbeing Across the Life Span:
Subthemes: Childhood, Adolescence, Youth, Adulthood, Geriatric Population
III. Mental Health Disorders and Current Trends in Interventions:
Subthemes: Counselling, Psychotherapy, Rehabilitation, Behaviour Therapy and Biofeedback, Neuropsychological Interventions, Suicide Preventive Measures
IV. Parenting, Marriage and Family Counselling and Psychotherapy:
Subthemes: Pre-Marital Counselling, Couples Therapy, Family Therapy,
Single Parent Families
V. Health-Based Applications of Psychotherapy and Wellbeing:
Subthemes: Psychological Management of Pain, Psycho-Oncology,
Psycho-Dermatology
VI. Diversity, Disability and Wellbeing:
Subthemes: Autism, ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Learning Disabilities,
Government Provisions, Certification, Assessment and Interventions for
Persons with Disabilities, LGBTQIA+, Voicing Parental Concerns
VII. Technology, Mental Health and Wellbeing:
Subthemes: Technology, Gadget use, Gaming, Internet, Porn Addiction;
CyberPsychology, Tele Mental Health
VIII. Mental Health and Wellbeing During Natural Disaster:
Subthemes: Flood, Covid-19 Pandemic, Tsunami, Earthquake Etc.
IX. Supervision:
Subthemes: Exploring Models, Applications, Importance, And Effectiveness for Mental Health Professionals.
X. Spirituality and Mental Health
Abstracts submitted to the Virtual Asia – Pacific Mental Health Symposium 2023 will be grouped together under the above-mentioned thematic areas. The VAMHS committee will review all submitted abstracts. Notifications regarding abstract acceptance and scheduling will be sent to the primary authors.
Guidelines for abstract submission
- Maximum of two abstracts can be submitted by each attendee.
- The first author will be considered the primary author and will submit the abstract. The primary author will also be the presenting author.
- Abstract/s must be submitted only through the Google Form link. Emailed abstracts will not be considered.
- The primary author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission.
- Please note that the primary author will receive all correspondence regarding the abstract and hence ensure that all the contact details are accurately
submitted.
- Submitted abstracts should contain non-published data. Abstracts previously presented will not be accepted.
- You will receive an acceptance email from the VAMHS 2023 committee if your abstract is selected.
- Authors of selected abstracts will be requested to submit full papers.
- Selected full papers may be considered for publication in the IAPS Journal of Practice in Mental Health with the consent of the author.
Details of Abstract Structure: (Word document upload)
The abstract should be a maximum of 300 words. It is preferable that the abstract contains the following details:
- A brief title of the presentation
- Background and Rationale of the Research
- Aim and Objectives
- Methodology
- Results, Discussion and Conclusions
- Implications of the Research
Criteria for abstract selection:
Abstract selection for oral presentations and symposia will be based on the following criteria:
- Contemporary relevance of the research
- Contribution to knowledge
- Clarity in methodology and analysis
- Implications and originality of the research

- Deadline for abstract submission: 15th Feb 2023
- Intimation of abstract selection: March 3rd 2023
- Final Paper Submission: 15th March 2023
Guidelines for paper presentation
- Each presentation will be 20 minutes in duration, followed by 10 minutes of discussion and Q & A.
- The presentation will largely follow a structure similar to that of the
abstract.
Guidelines for symposia
- A symposium is a focused session in which multiple (3-5) participants present their contributions related to a shared theme (covered by the list of symposium themes mentioned earlier).
- The format of a symposium usually consists of an introduction to the theme by the chairperson, providing a background for the ensuing
discussions. This is followed by individual presentations and interchange among the presenters and between the audience and the presenters. Often the symposium will end with the chairperson’s overview of the proceedings. - The abstract for the symposium will comprise the title of the symposium, a common abstract for the symposium, a separate abstract for each
presentation (all of these abstracts will follow the same structure mentioned above) and the presenters’ names. - The overall duration of the symposium will be 60-90 minutes (depending on the number of presenters), with each presenter presenting for 15 minutes.
- The presentation will largely follow a structure similar to that of the abstract.
